Testing Whether a Thyristor Is Damaged Without Power

Published: November 11, 2025

Introduction

For both SCR power controllers and soft starters, the thyristor is the most critical internal component.

During production, transportation, and operation, various accidents such as drops or impacts may occur, which could potentially cause damage to the thyristor.

Test Video

I will demonstrate how to use a multimeter to check whether a thyristor is damaged without applying power.
In the video, the yellow wire is connected to G1, the black wire to K1, the white wire to G2, and the red wire to K2.

More detailed and precise inspection results require corresponding equipment, on-site conditions, and procedures.
